Joe Sturges

Joe Sturges and Ryan Gutierrez strongly believe in the power of a well designed landscape to transform everyday experiences. They established GS Landscape Architecture Studio to pursue the creation of enduring and beautiful landscapes. Responding to the integrity inherent in a site and promoting appropriate material and design responses for a changing world drive their work. They bring to each project a strong engagement with the phenomenological experience of site and the importance of practical as well as poetic considerations. Prior to starting GS Landscape Architecture Studio, they worked together for a number of years in the offices of renowned landscape designer Nancy Goslee Power, where they developed a strong practice formed in place making across a variety of scales, as well as strong horticultural knowledge.  Ryan has a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and Joe has a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with honors, from the Art Center College of Design. Joe is also committed to design education and teaches visual communication and landscape studios to undergraduate and graduate level students at University of Southern California and Otis College of Art and Design.

We formed a California corporation for Joe and Ryan.
